The Department of Journalism at the Tirebolu Faculty of Communication, Giresun University, was officially established with the letter dated May 15, 2015, and numbered 75850160-301.01.01/2, received from the Presidency of the Higher Education Council (YÖK) Directorate of Education and Training, stating that students would be admitted for the 2015-2016 academic year. The rationale for its establishment is is to train communicators who can approach events with cause-and-effect relationships and critical and scientific criteria within a curriculum designed with a balance between theory and practice in the field of journalism, known as the pioneering profession of the media sector, in line with regional, national, and international developments and needs; who can renew their professional skills in line with the requirements of the age and technological developments; and who embrace ethical values.
